CHARACTER NAME: Kaito Nagano
CHARACTER AGE: Late twenties
CANON: A branch of 21st century Earth where magic and mythos coexist (relatively) peacefully. While there are factions on both sides of the Veil separating the two worlds, order yet persists. Kaito works as a private investigator, but he's more of an odd jobber who takes on all sorts of work for humans and supernatural beings alike.

Kaito has experienced a great deal of hardships over the course of his life, including his own death (physically twice, and countless other times through forced memory sharing). The fates have been unkind to him in many ways by separating him from his mother then the rest of his family through death, and he's faced the cruelty of other humans (children, mostly) while growing up. Despite the pain and loss he's been forced to endure, he still holds a positive outlook on life and has the resilience to drag himself off the floor when the odds are against him and despair starts creeping in.

Even if he's humble about it, Kaito is quite the powerhouse when it comes to physicality. He can take hits as well as he doles them out, and that's without taking his magic into account. He's squared off against demons, yokai, and even other demigods and gods over the years, so fighting against other horrors that may or may not resemble what he's familiar with back home would not be difficult to acclimate to. Although he's inclined to preserve life rather than take it (and that fact may initially hinder his ability to commit to fighting and killing kaiju), Kaito is not so stubborn in his personal beliefs to try and enforce them in other worlds where the state of living is completely different. He's adaptable.

Kaito grew up as a loner, and even at present in his canon he is more comfortable working on his own. But as stated above, he can adapt, and he does cooperate quite well in group settings. Although he is not the type to immediately take the lead (in fact, he's much happier being left to his own devices or supporting teammates), he knows to step up when it's required and can take control of a bad situation when it's needed. He may be gruff, but he isn't standoffish, and in a survival setting like Synflux's he'll be quick to acknowledge the importance of good teamwork in order to succeed on missions.

On the field, Kaito's magical abilities are quite useful in solo and team-based settings. The speed and precision with which he can handle water allow him to slot in nicely as a crowd-control specialist. He can cover his allies' blind spots and hinder or disable enemy monsters. In the city, his street-savvy nature and psychic ability to read the intentions of others should allow him some leeway in navigating dangerous territories and negotiating with its surly inhabitants—the latter of which is his specialty.

POWER	DESCRIPTION
Empathy	The ability to feel the emotions of all living things, from sapient creatures to plantlife. The range of this ability is roughly a few city blocks wide in all directions. Thankfully, it's not always on... anymore.
Indomitable Will	A combination of strengthening his resilience to emotional responses, traveling to the depths of the underworld to bargain with its queen, and experiencing thousands upon thousands of deaths as if they were his own have tempered Kaito's will to an extent that he did not immediately realize. It is very difficult to tempt or manipulate his mind using supernatural means, and he possesses an exceedingly strong resistance to pain.
Aura Perception	The ability to perceive the tangible life energy surrounding all living beings and organic matter. Tied closely to Kaito's Empathy, as he reads the weave of auras to interpret emotions.
Divine Lineage	The sea kami Ryujin's blood flows through his veins, granting him a number of supernatural gifts—his physique and a mastery over the element of water chief among them.
Hydrokinesis	Kaito can freely generate his element as a vibrant blue liquid. While he's tapping into his powers, his irises will shift from their natural gold color to a luminous azure. He is also able to shift the manipulated element between its three states and modulate its temperature.
Cryokinesis & Hygrokinesis	To a much lesser degree, Kaito can also manipulate ice and mist.
Water Mimicry	Kaito can transform his body partially or completely into a state of water. He can either keep the anatomical structure of his normal form or transform into homogenous matter. The speed at which he can transform is near-instantaneous, allowing him to adapt it into a frustratingly fluid fighting style. Kaito also enjoys using the shifts to enlarge his limbs mid-swing for explosive spikes in power.
Liquid Constructs	Water can be shaped into various weapons or barriers and solidified for use in combat. These objects take on the physical characteristics of sea glass but are extremely sturdy.
Hydrokinetic Cloning	An advanced application of the above two powers that allows Kaito to create clones of himself wrought from water. They take on his appearance and can act independently, but only possess a fraction of his power. Many clones can be summoned for a short period of time, while a single clone can be sustained for upwards of a week if left undisturbed.
Water Healing	Kaito's water has healing properties that, when applied to a target, accelerates their natural regeneration factor by several degrees and allows them to quickly heal from surface wounds while improving their recovery from deeper wounds and broken bones. However, it does not repair any damage instantly.
Water Warping	Kaito can project himself across a distance of many cities, teleporting to a previously visited location. When using this power, he creates a doorway wrought of water before stepping through it. Other beings can make use of these portals while they are active. In battle, this power can be used on a smaller scale to vanish and reappear a short distance away.

Kaito downplays this as he did not have a proper understanding of his physical capabilities before a certain point in time, but he's able to hold his own against some of his world's most powerful mythological beings.	Nerfed to be stronger than the Nanobot Injections reward, but far below the capacity to 1v1 kaiju.
The Heritor's Domain	A pocket dimension where time passes at a much slower rate than the outside world. The space within the Domain can be freely altered by Kaito. The Heritor's Domain is possessed of a number of quirks. Kaito can freely ferry other beings into the space at his leisure. If the key needed to access the space is lost, it becomes little more than an ancient trinket and can be recalled by Kaito.	Time no longer moves at a different rate compared to the outside world. The Domain no longer enhances the healing factors of those within and can only act as a hammerspace inventory outside of the Main Base. The familiars within the Domain are gone.
Soul Flame	The price of bringing his family members back from the dead was a promise to the kami Izanami: his soul. However, she could not directly take it from him at the time the deal was sealed, so she cursed his soul to become a beacon that drives weaker-willed creatures to seek Kaito's death—by their hands. Psychometry	The ability to view the memories of anything that Kaito touches, organic or not. Requires barehanded touch and triggers Kaito's Empathy. These memories can be shared with someone in close proximity if desired.	Lost in transmigration.
